Chula Vista: South Bay's Economic Engine
Over the past 20 years, Chula Vista has been one of San Diego's fastesn growing suburbs. Its explosive growth has created a new dynamic in the South Bay and cemented it as the second largest city in the San Diego Metropolitan area. This growth has been fueled by cultural diversity, economic diversity and proximity to the U.S./Mexico border.
An international commerce and transportation hub, Chula Vista has become an economic driver for the region and the country as a whole. This economic prowess has manifested itself in rapid growth throughout this city. What were once hillsides and canyons are now luxury subdivisions and lifestyle centers.
Extending from the Pacific Ocean inland, Chula Vista encompasses a wide swath of land in the South Bay region. The coastal area is very different from "Old Chula Vista" which is in turn very different from the newer development areas. All three could be three different cities, but they are woven into one municipality.
