Golden Hill

Golden Hill: San Diego's Golden Neighborhood

Golden Hill is steeped in history and grandeur. As the haven for the bankers and elite families of the 1900's Golden Hill got its name honestly. Often times mistakenly referred to as Golden Hills this neighborhood is adjacent to the east of the downtown core elevated on a hill overlooking the beautiful San Diego skyline, San Diego Bay and the Coronado Bay Bridge. This is one of my favorite neighborhoods in San Diego, because it is truly eclectic in so many ways. According to n Dictionary.com the definition of eclectic is: Deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. This explains Golden Hill to a T when it comes to the residents, architecture, food and housing options.n

Golden Hill is home to a great diversity of people—from young urban professionals, students, hipsters and bohemians to a thriving artist community and Hispanic population. Just walking through this community, that sits on the southeast side of Balboa Park, is an experience to behold as you will undoubtedly interact with a wonderful array of people. Friendly and authentic is a great way to describe the people of Golden Hill. Take a look at this photo tour(pt. 1) of Golden Hill that we put together! You can view photo tour(pt. 2) as well.

One of the greatest aspects of Golden Hill is that it has one of the best collections of pre-1920's homes available in all of San Diego. That in addition to the remarkable examples of Victorian, Spanish Colonial and craftsman architecture make this a great place to buy a home with truly magnificent touches and the details associated with the art of building in a time long since past. Many of yesterday's mansions have been converted to multi-unit dwellings, but the potential to un-convert such properties back into single family residences is an appealing option for many individuals who desire a large and stately urban residence. There is also an abundance of smaller SFR, condos, bungalows and apartments throughout this community.

Literally steps from both Balboa Park and the downtown core, Golden Hill represents the convenience and vibrancy of downtown without the headache of always being in the mix. With its own cadre of local favorites, many people descend upon this neighborhood to partake in wonderful food and great people.
